Nasser Shukayr

Nasser was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from college at age eighteen, and at age twenty started his own computer programming business. He learned to square dance in 1987, and called his first tip while still in new dancers' class. In 1988 he attended Jack Lasry's caller school, then taught his first class of new dancers. In 1989 he learned to call Progressive Squares. In 1990 he started cueing rounds. Nasser recorded with Rockin' M Records from 1994 thru 1999 and with Lou-Mac Records from 1999 thru 2005. Nasser and Doug Davis became co-owners of Chinook Records in 2006.

Jeanna Phare Shukayr was born and raised in Plymouth, England. She danced all kinds of dancing, including square dancing, from an early age. She and Nasser first met in March 2004 at a square dance in Exeter, England. They were married in June 2006. Jeanna loves to be with square dancers. She helps with all classes and dances, sings beautifully, and is an extremely important part of the calling team.

From 2004 through 2009, Nasser and Jeanna were full-time callers for a Winter Texan program in the Harlingen area. In 2008 they moved to San Antonio. Nasser and Jeanna now call and teach all levels from Beginners through Advanced for a very successful local club, FunDancers. They also enjoy extensive travel to call square dances all over the world. Nasser has called in all 50 states and in 22 countries. (Jeanna has already been to 46 states and 15 countries through the wonderful magic of square dancing.)

Nasser was General Chairman of the 1995 Louisiana Square Dance convention, served as chairman of CALLERLAB's R-P-M (Recruit-Promote-Maintain) committee in 1996-97, and in 1997 was elected to serve on the CALLERLAB Board of Governors. Nasser became involved with training other callers in 2001, and in 2005 became a CALLERLAB Accredited Caller Coach. Nasser leads various caller training and caller school events each year, including the annual Silver State Caller College which he and Doug Davis co-founded in 2001. Many of Nasser's written articles have appeared in square dance publications worldwide.

Nasser and Jeanna are enthusiastic about square dancing because of the high quality of people in the activity. It's just totally amazing to meet so many fun people in so many fantastic locations throughout the world. In square dancing, you'll meet wonderful people who can easily become your lifelong friends.
