2024 Square Dancers of the Year

Jerry and Anne Fleming began square dancing and round dancing in 1998 and are very active members of West County Spinners, River City Rounds, and Zig Zags. They have held multiple and various offices within the club including president, vice president and corresponding secretary, some of these positions’ multiple times. Besides having held district level offices, they currently are in charge of half of the St. Louis District’s monthly newsletter which includes the dance and lessons calendar with callers/cuers and dance locations.

Jerry and Anne have attended over 14 national conventions as well as attending the Missouri State Festival nearly every year. The St Louis District has a raid/retrieve program, and the Flemings are always a top tier participant as they attend practically every dance that is held in our district, regardless of the club. They also dance with River City Rounds and Zig Zags. They host Zig Zags (an advance/challenge club) in their basement. Sometimes they even held regular mainstream or plus lessons in their basement. Additionally, they angel at any/every club’s dance lessons in the area, again, regardless of the club. It is not unusual to see them out dancing every day of the week. We call them the “Energizer Bunnies” because they will dance the entire evening both rounds and squares, sometimes after having attended an advance dance in the afternoon!

Jerry and Anne have done so very much to promote both square and round dancing by participating in dance demonstrations, providing rides for dancers, serving as angels for lessons, and graciously splitting up and dancing with whomever needs a partner.

Jerry and Anne Flemming have dancing in their soul and blood and the dancing community is certainly better off for having them. And they are simply just nice, wonderful, helpful people.
