August 2, 1950 ~ February 14, 2025
JoAnn M. Grotegeers, age 74, of Berkeley, Missouri passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025. Born August 2, 1950, to Eugene and Marie (nee: Gillering) Grotegeers. They have preceded her in death, as has her brother Gregory Grotegeers (Maria survives). JoAnn is survived by her siblings: Jeff (the late Carol), Glenn, Jean Sowa, Gerard (Cathy), Gary, Janet Lubinski (Joe); her nieces and nephews: Renee, Kathy Kasten (Andrew), Glenn Jr., Ann Marie, Michelle, Gina, Matthew (Latonya), Lauren Muehling (Jeremy), Joseph Schmidt (Lindsay), Christine Schmidt, Jade Lubinski (Chris Linich); dear friends Vicky, Cindy, and Bruce; cousins, other relatives and friends.
When JoAnn was very young, she contracted German measles that led to her hearing loss which she battled with the rest of her life. She wore hearing aids for many years and it was only in the last 5 years that she ended up receiving a Cochlear Implant to help enhance her hearing and was a great benefit to her.
In 1968, JoAnn graduated from St Mary's Academy. During her time in high school, she was active in the school's musicals. She was also active with the Girl Scouts, and was a co-leader for her younger sister Janet's Troop. She enjoyed all the silliness and laughs with the girls.
After graduation JoAnn started working at Trios restaurant when Mr. Grone of Grone's Cafeteria visited that restaurant and was so impressed with her service that he offered her a job at his establishment. After some encouragement, JoAnn went on to work at Grone's Cafeteria in Woodson Terrace for 29 years until it's closing. She enjoyed making pies and visiting with customers that treated her like family.
She then went to work at Bethesda Dilworth Nursing home in the Dietary department for the next 20 years, where she again liked visiting with the residents. She continued to work until she entered the hospital where she passed five days later. She was a very dedicated, hard-working lady.
JoAnn had a fondness for assisting and visiting with the elderly as well as young children. This was evident by her work in the hospitality industry and at the nursing home. She also greatly enjoyed caring for and looking after her numerous nieces and nephews when they were younger and was a wonderful Aunt.
Outside of work JoAnn enjoyed square dancing with the Missouri Promenaders Club and attended dances and conventions with them around the state.
JoAnn loved spending time with family and friends and their pets where she spoiled her brother Gerard's dog 'Buddy' with treats multiple times a week.
As a member of All Souls Catholic Church, JoAnn was previously a long-time member of Our Lady of the Presentation Church where her funeral will be held. She was a devoted faithful servant with a gentle spirit and she will be greatly missed.
