Barbara Turner

Barbara Turner, a square dancer since 1984 with West County Spinners, passed Wednesday, 1/25/23. She and her husband Dave were extremely active in the square dancing community.

Dave and Barbara Turner started dancing in 1984 with the West County Spinners. In that club they have held the office of Treasurer and President. Dave and Barbara have never missed a year of serving as an angel for lessons. In 2012 it will be 27 years! They were also on the Board of Directors that planned and executed the 1993 National Square and Round Dance Convention held in St. Louis, which hosted nearly 20,000 dancers. They were Services Chairmen with responsibilities that included preparation of all room in the Convention Center, Communications, Food Services, First Aid, Security and Sound for the dance halls.

They have served as President of the Missouri Federation of Square and Round Dance Clubs in 2002, having previously held the offices of Treasurer, third, Second and First Vice-President. In 2004 and 2010 they were co-chairmen of the Missouri State Festival. Currently, Dave serves the state as Coordinator for the State USDA Insurance Program and Barbara is Parliamentarian. Dave is also a Representative-At-Large for the St. Louis Metro Square and Round Dance Association. They have volunteered and served the community for many years in civic and charitable organizations outside the square dance community.

Barbara and Dave also enjoyed camping, traveling and time with family. She also was a volunteer docent at the Gateway Arch for many years. Shortly after Dave's passing in 2015, Barbara moved to Florida and quickly became an active volunteer for several area organizations. A few years ago, she moved back to Missouri, residing in a senior living residence in Farmington to be near family. She and Dave combined their love of square dancing with their zeal for community service. She and Dave touched many lives and will be fondly and long remembered.

It was Barbara's wish to be donated for medical research. There will not be a visitation. Funeral arrangements are pending.
